Similar to Voltron, the dub's tendency to write around death was seen as a good thing in hindsight since this franchise would often bring back dead characters anyway. Many fans cite the 4kids dub of Yu-Gi-Oh! as an example of this, with characters' interactions and personalities being considered closer to the manga, from Joey's friends openly supporting him (instead of criticizing him in public,) or Kaiba's personality. In the dub, the witch biting into the princess's neck was kept from view and the princess could be heard "moaning" after the ritual, implying she was merely magically aged rather than killed, which was the case in the actual fairy tale. For example, the episode, The Crystal Ball, features a vampiric witch draining the princess of her blood until she's left a festering corpse. Sometimes, sanitizing stories actually made the episodes closer to the source material. It would seem that Nickelodeon had a hand in this one episode, "The Coat of Many Colors," even had to be redubbed in order to cut out references to incest.

This might be in part because the English version heavily edited the series to be less macabre than the original (which had been known for occasionally taking stories in a dark direction.) Examples of the changes made include cutting out references to Satan and demons in Hansel and Gretel.
Some American children of the 80's grew up watching this dub on Nickelodeon and often have fond memories of it.
